In an effort to boost local commerce during the 2016 holiday season, the Small Business Saturday Shop Small, Win Big contest awarded prizes to shoppers who made purchases at downtown Jamestown stores and restaurants between Nov. 26 and Dec. 19.
Sponsored by Jamestown Up Close, with additional sponsorship by Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, Jamestown Community Chamber and The Post-Journal, the contest highlights the importance of supporting local businesses during the busiest shopping period of the year. It also offers an incentive to shoppers that spend a minimum of $10 at participating downtown Jamestown locations.
This year’s top prize went to Jamie Smeragliuolo of Jamestown, who won a 50-inch Vizio LED Smart TV after shopping at the BioDome Project. Robert Storms of Jamestown won an iPad Mini after shopping at the Enchanted Mountain Spirits Distillery. The other iPad Mini went to Roger Fuller of Youngsville, Pa., who shopped at Trinity Guitars.
The kick-off to the contest was held on Small Business Saturday, an American shopping holiday that falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. First observed in 2010, it has become a popular nationwide counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which feature big box retail and e-commerce stores respectively.
