Weekends are almost always packed full of fun in the Jamestown area. This Saturday in particular will be a great time to get out and about. Whether you're looking for a family activity or a good time with friends, these events are great options:
Great Jamestown ChalkWalk
The third annual Great Jamestown ChalkWalk will take place this Saturday on the sidewalks of downtown Jamestown. Artists of all skill levels and styles are encouraged to participate in this event, which brings temporary public art to the heart of the city. Artists are given the day to create their works, with awards totaling $1,200 in cash awarded at 6:30 pm at Winter Garden Plaza. People are encouraged to come downtown and walk around to witness the creative process. There will be activities for kids and entertainment throughout the day at Winter Garden Plaza. If you are interested in participating in the event, be sure to pre-register here. You can take a look at this video from last year to find inspiration.
Local Music Showcase
The 11th annual Local Music Showcase will also take place on Saturday, starting at 6 pm and ending at 2 am on Sunday. This fundraiser for Infinity Visual and Performing Arts consists of over 40 bands playing in ten downtown music venues throughout the evening. Purchasing a wristband for $10 at any of the venues gets you access into every venue for the entire evening. This unique and fun event is a favorite of many locals. Southern Tier Xpress Home Opener
This Saturday is also the beginning of the inaugural season for Jamestown’s new hockey team, the Southern Tier Xpress. The Xpress is a junior hockey team that is part of the North American Tier III Hockey League (NA3HL) and is in the East Division with teams from Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Twenty-two home games will be played on weekends at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena through February. You can purchase season tickets, half season tickets, family packs, and tickets to individual games here.
Lastly, we would like to highlight that tickets went on sale early last week for Bob Newhart’s performance at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts on October 11th. This comedy icon’s career spans two successful television shows, fourteen feature films, several albums, and indelible standup performances. Mr. Newhart’s performance is part of the Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K. This year the event has grown and will include a world record breaking attempt for grape stomping. You can purchase your tickets for Bob Newhart here and get more information about the Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K at Lucyrace.com.
