Roller derby, classic car shows and much more take place this weekend

Two businesses will be celebrating milestones in downtown Jamestown this week. The Pub will be hosting a grand re-opening on Tuesday at 4pm to mark the completion of the beloved restaurant’s complete renovation following a devastating fire back in January. Come and congratulate Mary, Sam & the crew for all the hard work and dedication it has taken to re-open. The same friendly atmosphere will welcome you along with some new twists to the inside décor.

Also downtown, it’s already been a year since Brazil Craft Beer & Wine Lounge opened as Jamestown’s coolest new social spot. This Friday, Brazil will be celebrating the occasion with giveaways, drink specials, and snacks. DJ Cobra and DJ Bone will be playing music and, of course, there will be great beer. Brazil has featured over 250 varieties of beer on tap and will bring back some of the first beers to grace the draught lines to celebrate the anniversary. Learn about a few of the beers that will be served there.

Your local roller derby league, Chautauqua County Roller Derby, returns home for a game against the Queen City Roller Girls of Buffalo. The game will take place at Allen Park Ice Rink this Saturday at 7:30 pm with doors opening at 6:30. Tickets are $10 at the door or can be purchased at Cibo for $8. Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

This Saturday the Jamestown Audubon will host its Wild 5K Run/Walk. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with the race starting at 10 a.m. Fee is $25, $22.50 for Friends of the Nature Center. There will also be free children’s events. Learn more at www.wild5k.wordpress.com.

Rolling Hills Radio will travel out to the Chautauqua Amphitheater this Sunday for a special taping of their program. This edition will feature a performance from pop folk band The Farewell Drifters from Nashville, TN, Liz Longley from Downington, PA, and Kent Knappenberger of Westfield, NY. Locals may recognize Knappenberger’s name as the recipient of the Grammys’ Music Educator Award this year. There is no gate fee on Sundays at Chautauqua Institution, so this is a prime opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds that Chautauqua has to offer. Music starts at 2 pm.

Also this Sunday, the World Series of Cars returns to Bergman Park in Jamestown. Special attractions include trucks, fire trucks, sports cars, RC racing, antique cars and street rods. There are usually 350 - 400 show cars in attendance, where over 120 trophies are awarded. There are many other special attractions as well and lots of food, starting with breakfast at 7 am and continuing on throughout the day.

Official show hours are 8 am until 5 pm. Rain or shine.

The Insomniac Film Competition has announced that their next competition will be August 22nd through the 23rd.
