The musical “Rent” opened last weekend at The Spire Theater and continues this week with performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The popular musical tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York City’s lower east side in the days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. “Rent” won several Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score. This Thursday also marks the beginning of the “Third Thursday” summer concert series, with performances from local bands Smackdab and Little Sea Bird. Infinity Visual & Performing Arts will host its Spring Showcase this Friday at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. The evening will feature an open house and student art exhibit at Infinity from 5:30-6:30 pm and the performance will begin at 7:00 pm at the Reg. Tickets are $6 presale or $8 at the door. This Saturday, Southern Tier Brewing Company celebrates American Craft Beer Week with Public Day, an event featuring a wide variety of beer samples, food, music, and brewery tours throughout the day. The Jamestown Area Community Orchestra will hold their spring concert this Sunday at Jamestown High School at 4 pm in the Auditorium. The event will cover a broad repertoire, including Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major and a medley of Duke Ellington favorites. The event is free and open to the public.
