Thunder in the Streets and Cruisin' Return

After years of success, Jamestown’s annual Thunder in the Streets and Downtown Cruisin’ will continue to be held in conjunction with each other on Friday, August 16th in downtown Jamestown. 

The 10th Annual Thunder in the Streets will run 12pm-11pm on the west side of the city. There will be live entertainment provided by Two for Flinching from 12pm-3pm, Coal Train from 4pm-7pm and The Bogarts from 8pm-11pm. All live performances will be held at Renaissance Square on the corner of West Third and Lafayette Streets.

Team FMX will showcase three professional stunt shows at 3pm, 5:30pm, and 9pm on West Third Street in front of the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.  The Jamestown Renaissance Corporation will be collecting donations throughout each show to help continue the free, family-friendly events in downtown each year.

A beverage garden will be provided by the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, along with food and novelty vendors on-site.

“This marks the 10th anniversary for Thunder in the Streets.  This event has truly become a signature event in downtown Jamestown over the years,” said Tiffani Conti, JRC Event and Programming Associate.  “We would like to invite all motorcycle clubs and organizations to take part in the event by having a display or setting up a booth within the event or attending to showcase their motorcycles. Additional vendor spaces are also available for local motorcycle, food, and novelty vendors.”

The Veterans of Modern Warfare Chapter 20 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 865 are hosting a Scenic Ride for the local Southern Chautauqua County 4-H programs in combination with Thunder in the Streets.  Registration will begin at 1pm in the VVA parking lot at 41 Bigelow Avenue, Jamestown. Kick-stands will go up at 2:45pm for a beautiful ride around Chautauqua Lake to a flag salute at the new Veterans Memorial Park on Logan Avenue at 4pm. An escorted bike parade will start at 4:15pm and travel down West Third Street to Jefferson Street where the parade will enter Thunder in the Streets.  The procession will be led by any veteran riders followed by other participants.   The fee will be $5 per driver and passenger.  All proceeds from this ride will benefit the 4-H Programs in Southern Chautauqua County.  For more information and to register call 716-450-6768. Thunder in the Streets is sponsored by Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Best Western Plus, Media One Group, Ziebart of Jamestown, Harley Davidson of Jamestown, and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. 

The 21st annual Downtown Cruisin’ is presented by the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation and the Der Kobbler’s Automobile Association, which will run from 5pm-11pm. Downtown streets will be lined with hundreds of custom-built, antique, and old fashioned trucks, cars, motorcycles, and race cars.

Third Street between Prendergast and Spring Street; Spring Street and Washington Street; along with Cherry and Pine Streets closed between Second and Fourth Streets. Downtown streets will begin to close at 3pm to accommodate the hundreds of show vehicles that will be participating in the event. Washington Street will remain open for the 2013 Cruisin’. Alternative parking is available in the North Main Street parking ramp, Cherry Street parking ramp, Spring Street parking ramp, and on-street parking on those streets outside the event closures.

Cruisin’ registration is now open.  There is a $5.00 donation to enter.  Pre-registration is highly encouraged and recommended.  Registration forms are available at www.jamestownrenaissance.org, on the JRC Facebook page, or by calling 664-2477, ext 226.    

Check-in and on-site registration will begin at 4:30pm at the Jamestown High School parking lot on Foote Avenue in Jamestown.  All vehicles must check-in at Jamestown High School to receive their participant identification tag before being permitted to park in downtown.  Vehicles will be on display from 5pm to 11pm. 

All drivers will receive a complimentary goodie bag for their participation. Any business or organization wishing to include information, coupons, or other promotional items is encouraged to drop off items to the JRC offices located at 19-121 West Third Street in downtown Jamestown. Items must be delivered by Wednesday, August 7th

Live music will be on the main stage at the corner of Third and North Main Streets.  Happy Days will perform from 5pm-7pm and Night Shift will close out the evening from 8pm-11pm.

Spectators can also enjoy a performance by Collective Groove at the Infinity Arts Cafe  at 7pm to experience a unique ensemble that combines Caribbean steel strums, a rhythm section, and singers to create an interactive musical experience.  This event is free and features indoor and outdoor seating thanks to the Infinity Arts Café movable NanaWall. Make sure to stop in the café counter to purchase popcorn, candy, soda, and other snacks to enjoy during the performance. The café is located at 115 East Third Street.

There will be dancing in the streets and kids contests with prizes for the entire family to enjoy.  Vendors will be participating in addition to The Wine Cellar beverage garden in Wintergarden Plaza.
