Prendergast Library Scrabble Tournament – Win a Kindle Fire HD!
The library will host a Scrabble tournament from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the Fireplace Room at the library.
Admission is $15 to benefit the library, and refreshments will also be available for sale. Funds raised by the event will be used to provide library materials and services.
There will be two 45-minute rounds, with three minutes for each turn. Players with the top 10 scores will then challenge each other in a “death round.”There will be prizes for all 10 of the top scorers. Prizes are as follows:
- 1st place – Kindle Fire HD
- 2nd place – Scrabble Deluxe Wood Edition
- 3rd place – Scrabble Diamond Deluxe
- 4th through 10th place – Official Scrabble Dictionary
Trinity Biotech donated toward the prizes in appreciation for being able to send employees to the library for free advanced Excel computer classes.
The event is intended primarily for adults, but there is no age limit to play.
Interested participants may register at the Information Desk or mail their checks to Scrabble Tournament, Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For more information, call 484-7135. People can also register the morning of the tournament in the Fireplace Room.
The library has several circulating items about Scrabble including “The Fingertips of Duncan Dorfman,” a juvenile fiction title by Meg Wolitzer about three 12-year-olds who meet at the Youth Scrabble Tournament, and “Word Wars,” a DVD documentary that follows four Scrabble game fanatics as they advance to the North American Championship.
