The JCC UNCOMMONERS are pleased to announce that casting for their spring show, SYLVIA, is now complete. Vince Joy, Kristina Benson, and Malachi Livermore will join Crin Fredrickson in the title role of the dog, when the show opens on March 15, 2013.
The plot: Greg (Vince Joy) and Kate (Kristina Benson) have moved to Manhattan after twenty=two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park – or that has found him – bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag (Crin Fredrickson.) A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection, while Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy, resulting in a series of hilarious and touching complications. And along the way, we meet several other interesting characters, all of them played by Malachi Livermore.
SYLVIA is written by A. R. Gurney. Show dates are: March 15, 16, 22, & 23 at 8:00pm, and March 24 at 2:00pm. All performances take place in the Scharmann Theatre on the JCC campus. Tickets may be obtained by calling the box office at 338-1187, or visiting campusstore.sunyjcc.edu.
