I Spy JTNY Architectural Hunt Takes Focus

Architectural Hunt in Jamestown, NY. Jamestown has some of the best architecture in Chautauqua County. Join the community in trying to identify the more unique features of Jamestown's architecture

This week marks the start of "I Spy JTNY Architectural Hunt" presented by The Post-Journal, JRC, The Fenton History Center and WAKE UP! Productions.

I Spy is a community arts and architecture enrichment project that begins today and will run through the end of September. Every month, The Post-Journal will publish photos submitted by members of the greater Jamestown community. These photos will highlight interesting and sometimes unnoticed features of some of the city's most historic and aesthetically significant buildings. Area residents will then be encouraged to identify the building shown in the photo for a chance to participate in the culminating celebrations following the close of the contest.

Are residents are now welcome to submit their photos of the city's most beautiful landmarks.

Roller Derby Season Starts May 4th

About a week from now in a rink not so far away, Chautauqua County Roller Derby’s Babes of Wrath present their season home opener, “May the 4th Be With You”! The game will, of course, be held on May 4th at Allen Park Ice Rink (200 Elizabeth Avenue, Jamestown NY). The Babes will battle the Niagara Roller Girls, from Niagara Falls, ON. If you find your lack of tickets disturbing, $8 pre-sale tickets are available at Labyrinth Press Company (12 E. 4th St., Jamestown NY), Sharp’s Russell Roller Rink (7385 Market St., Russell PA), or can be purchased from your favorite derby girl! $10 tickets will be available at the door. Doors will be open to the public at 6 pm, and the bout will begin at 7 pm. Admission is free for kids 12 and under. Kids and adults are invited to cheer for the Babes wearing their best Star Wars garb for a chance to win prizes during half-time. CCRD Events Director Frank Besse says, “Roller Derby is an event the whole family can enjoy. We have even invited Martz Observatory to come teach us about the stars!” Food and beverages will be available courtesy of Flantastic Foods.
